my old laptop that ive been using for the past 4 years has ZERO issues with latency whatsover, my NEWER laptop (that i just received, and is about to replace my old one) seems to play, mix, and scratch fine for the first couple minutes/couple songs. Then latency progressively gets worse over time. Very responsive in the beginning, then a half second delay in latency, then a full second delay in latency, then a few full seconds behind in latency. Very weird. Old laptop is continuously responsive and never had this issue.

Soundcard settings are identical on both laptops. Specs below.

OLD
Dell Inspiron 6000
1.6GHZ
512MB RAM
40GB Hard Drive

NEW
Dell Vostro 1500
2.20GHZ, Intel Core2 Duo
2GB RAM DDR
250GB Hard Drive

Soundcard setup:
MAYA44 USB
44khz/16bit
ASIO system performance set to RAPID (i have tried Fast, NORMAL, normal +MME, and relaxed: same result)
Serato CV02

HELP!

Just a few questions to clarify a few things:

What operating system are you using on old and new?
What build of djDecks are you using? Are you using the one optimised for dual core processors?
Have you built your tag cache on your new laptop?
Have you optimised your new laptop for audio? I think BAllen posted a link to a really good site to fully explain how to do this, but I can't seem to find it now  maybe have a look thru this http://www.audioforums.com/resources/windows-xp-optimization.html
Have you got the usb power saving turned off?

Sorry there's so many questions, but hopefully it will be a start in trying to pin down exactly what is causing this.
M :D

OK, well that's most of my ideas out of the window then!

 Have you disabled the webcam and the wireless internet? I'm sure I remember reading something about these having a bad effect on external sound cards, especially on Dell lappys?

I remember that there were other users that had this problem with the maya44, so I'm afraid it's probably a combination of the maya44 and your new hardware that doesn't go together very well, not sure if I've seen a real solution for this.
I think there were different versions of the driver, so you could try to find a different driver version and try if it works better.

ive tried multiple versions, all 3. same result

yea, i was thinking of letting the Maya44 go prior to the problem anyways. its obviously obsolete now. its been a good 4 years though.

whats the board consensus on the least expensive, most reliable (best balance of both) soundcard out there currently?

EDIT: Right my new and old pc`s

OLD
HP Compaq nc8230 notebook - Win xp pro
Centrino Moblie 2.0Ghz single core
2GB Ram - 80GB HDD
Runs great :-)

NEW
Acer Revo r3610 nettop - Win 7 x64
Atom 330 1.6Ghz Dual Core
4GB Ram - 500GB HDD - ion Gaphics
Struggles - and this thing is for high deff 1080p movie playback, mutlimedia stuff
And can run some serious games, and yet it can run a simple DJ package FFS
Link to comp.....
http://www.ebuyer.com/product/172708

Soundcard Setup
U46DJ with Win7 X64 ESI 3.0 Drivers
Works ok with VDJ 6.0.6

How strange is this - CPU way up and pops and clicks :(
Any ideas?

Cheers...... for any help, BTW I have tried DX version too with graphic bugs as well...:-(

I`ve noticed that DJD is showing a defferent CPU reading to the windows task Manager/performance - why is this, DJD is way up in the 60 to 70 and windows is around 20 To 30 mark?

The cpu usage djDecks shows is that of the audio engine only. At 100% it would be completely utilizing one core, and this would likely result in the audio skipping.

Windows shows the cpu usage of the entire program, but it sums up all the cpu cores.
With a dual core, windows will show 50% when one core would be completely utilized.

Ok I see - thanks for the reply - any Ideas what I could do to correct or make it better,
I`m using a U46DJ With the latest x64 Drivers - BTW the task manager shows 4 CPU`s
even though is a dual core + I`m new to windows 7

Cheers Whelan 8)

What kind of CPU is it? It might have HyperThreading then. If it's a P4, it might be a good idea to check the bios to see if you can disable HyperThreading, as I've heard from other people that disabling this actually improved performance in certain cases.

Its a Intel Atom 330 Dual core - its deffo got HyperThreading in the bios enabled,
I`m sure I tried to turn this off but window`s would not boot,
I will check again when I get home from work.....mmmm

Right, I don't know if HT is a problem or not with an Atom.
It isn't that strange that an 1.6Ghz Atom performs worse than a 2.0Ghz centrino though.
For games and movie playback it probably benefits from the ion platform, which might have much better graphics capabilities than your older pc.
For djDecks, CPU power is more important. (You could try the djDecks DX beta too to see if it performs better on the atom, since part of the graphics work will be done by the gpu)

I also have a acer aspire one 1.6ghz single core Atom netbook and that can run VDJ 6.06,
Not superb but can run it - its like its on par with my new dual core Atom strange,
Its not latency I have Problems with its pops and clicks or rough audio if you like.....

My mate told me to try procxp - wich is a prog to tell you the ins and outs of all
prcessess being made on you comptuer`s CPU ect - its more accurate than the built in windows task manager, And I might be able to pin piont the cause of my problem.

BTW I have tried the DX version looks nice - but I get graphical bugs like
Panels diserpire and stuff but the audio`s not as bad - theres no CPU meter on
That vesion for the audio engine I noticed?

Whats the best Direct x to use?

Thanks for all your help :D
