there are quite a few programs to help you with this for example also there are quite a few tutorials on this as well already made that could be posted up. It's not a "must" but it would definately make things look nice, maybe you could make it so people could do it both ways....

sorry i'm not trying to bombard you with things to do, You have plenty on your hands, this is just a suggestion

Here's a couple of resources which might be useful to skin designers (I'm not sure how the skinning works in DJdecks though, so I'm not sure if these resources are useful or not):

yeah that knob renderer program is a plugin for photoshop, so all you have to do is make one knob image at 12'oclock, add your lighting and shading fx and then the knob renderer automatically makes all the other rotations and images, then you just load all those images into a program like pngstitch and it makes the strip for you, pretty easy using these tools

This would make skinning a lot more lively, and if the disc object could also be done like this is would allow for a much more realistic 'spinning record'

Thanks all, it does look indeed interesting then, and it would also mean the rotating disc animation would use a lot less processing power if a rotating image is used.

yeah this is the standard technique used for VST plugins, where you definitely do not want realtime graphics transforms killing your CPU (you need that for playing back all the tracks, processing, playing software synthesizers etc).

so if i'm not mistaken in VST plugins you use a PNG image that is basically a strip of the knob in different positions? and then the GUI program just selects the right part of the strip to display the correct image?

The new beta now contains a drawtype 3 for knob and disc objects.
I haven't tested it yet, but it should work.

Adion, does it have to be a horizntal stitch, or can you use vertical stitches? I assume only horizontal. I tried using some of the programs listed above, the knob renderer plug-in for Photoshop works great, but only does vertical stitching in the free version, and pngstitch only does vertical too.

Or does anyone know a good program that does horizontal stitching?

Also Adion, how would you go about skinning this. Do you have to do....

<additional_pic>"name of stitched pic"</additional_pic>

or

<additional_pic><ref>"name of stitched pic"</ref></additional_pic>

For now only horizontal stitch is supported, but if it would be more convenient if you can use vertical as well then I can easily add that.

Ref is only for the mouseover/selected/active pictures.
The only way you can use it now is by using <name> with an image specified in the elements list, but then you'd have to paste the image strip in the elements image.

I'll see if I can add a 'file' option as well to directly load a specific image.

I'd like the vertical option as well, plus it would be cool if we could use transparent backgrounds on png stitches

I do think allowing to load separate (.png) files would be good as they can be quite qide (or high) depending on the number of images..

Having them in the elements file is IMO not the best solution..
