I've build a small tool that can help you create your skins and midi xml configurations.
It's definately not a full skin editor, but a tool that helps in creating the correct files, and defining the xml object's.
You still need to copy/paste the objects in the correct xml file yourself though.

v0.76 (July 31, 2010)
The tool can be downloaded here

You start by either pressing the 'new...' button to start a new skin, or the open folder button to browse to an existing skin folder.
You will then see all pictures related to that skin, and by clicking them you can open them.
Now you can select any region in the skin just by dragging the area you want to use.
In the second window, you can then fine-tune the position of the area, and create an xml object around it.

If you already have colors, elements or fonts defined in your xml files, the skin helper will show you these in the drop down boxes.
When you change or add any of these, you have to restart the skin helper to update the drop down boxes.

Using the text box in the right-top corner you can now also search for objects, and a description on how to use the object is also shown.

As of v0.70, you can also use the Skin Helper to help you with xml midi definitions.
Please refer to the midi xml documentation to know how to get started.

Requirements
.NET Framework v3.5

Altough I do have the Vista RC installed, this is Windows XP with a cool mod called XPize.
It basically replaces most graphics in XP that were not updated yet, and looked old, and it also adds a new colors to the themes.
It's also much more light-weight than most other window managers / style replacements for xp.

That's a nice skin actually....think I'm going to install it on my non mission critical pc.

Nope. It just replaces a bunch of icons and images. Nothing really special so it should not give a performance drop.
Your skin on the other hand..........

*just kidding*

This skin helper is a good thing. Think I'm going to look into it myself once I find the time for it. Would be cool to create my own DjDecks skin that is totally suitable for ME ME ME ME ME ME! 8)

Since you get this detailed error information, I don't think you are missing anything.
Maybe you don't have djDecks installed to c:\program files\djDecks ?
For now the tool only looks there for the djDecks folder.

New version online now, which now looks in the registry where djDecks is installed, and also doesn't crash anymore on wrong color input.
