Ok, as promised, I tried to make a vst version out of it.

You can download the demo version

Just extract it in your vstplugins folder.

After about 15 minutes it will output 100 bpm and mute the sound for about 10 seconds.

All you need to do is select the midi device you want to output the clock signal to, and set enable to 1.

Let me know if this works.

Well, it sorta works. The GUI is obviously just a test GUI... Fine. It took upwards of 8 bars to detect a BPM...and it didn't seem to change itself....I had to click on the gui a bunch of times and slide things around in order to get the BPM to show up. I did not seem to send midi clock to my receiving app. But eventually it did show something pretty close to the actual BPM on its own GUI.

Something also crashed my vst host...(which is usually pretty stable), so I would have to attribute that to your VST plugin.

If you get a nice GUI, get the issues worked out..and if it can respond to tempo changes faster...and send out the midi clock, then I can use it.

Actually there is no GUI whatsoever.
It are just vst parameters, so how the gui looks and behaves completely depends on your vst host.
In fruity loops for example the gui updates when the vst requests it, and this works fine.

I can add some options to determine the speed it adapts to new bpm, but the faster it will adapt, the less accurate the bpm reading will be.

It's strange that the midi out didn't work, but I'll test that some more myself.

Thanks for your feedback.

k, most testing... The gui itself does not update, but this time I got my other midi app to recognize the midi clock coming from your plugin..not sure what i did differently this time. That being said..the BPM's were not right at all when using a whole music track as input. Off by 30 BPM. They do seem to update pretty quickly enough...the BPM in my my receving midi app was changing about every second or so. But way off. Reading 150 BPM when its really around 120.

I changed to just using a quantized midi track. Sometimes detection was correct and sometimes way off...and slow to correct.

Seems to work well with some beats better than others. Throw in a few funky syncopated hits here and there...and it tends to go way off. I'd have to try this with my band for a while to see whether I can use it or not..and I guess it would really depend on the material we're doing...
